At Om Yoga Wellness Centre, we honour yoga as it was meant to be—authentic, mindful, and approachable. Led by Dr. Vivek Mitter, whose journey began in Brisbane, and then took him all the way back to India, our classes embrace the wisdom of these ancient practices while making them accessible and relevant to modern life. We intentionally keep our sessions small and personalised, allowing every student to feel seen, supported, and understood. This isn’t yoga repackaged for the masses—it’s a practice tailored to your unique needs, designed to nurture both mind and body. Whether you’re seeking to reduce stress, build strength, or simply find a moment of peace, we’re here to guide you on a path that’s both transformative and meaningful.
Your Instructor
Hi, I’m Vivek, and I’m so happy you’ve found your way to Om Yoga Wellness Centre! My yoga journey began more than 25 years ago, and it’s been a life-changing adventure that I now get to share with people from all walks of life—including you.
I wasn’t always a yoga teacher. Back in India, I earned a PhD in Agricultural Sciences and worked with inspiring organisations such as IARI, UQ, and CSIRO here in Queensland. But life threw me a curveball in the early 2000s when I started struggling with some health issues. I didn’t want to rely on medications, so I decided to try something different—yoga. To say it transformed my health would be an understatement. The changes were so incredible that I knew I had to share these traditional practices with others.
I trained in India in Sivananda and Hatha Yoga styles and opened Om Yoga Wellness Centre in 2005. Over the years, I’ve taught yoga everywhere—schools, prisons, aged care homes, corporate offices, even to professional athletes. I truly believe Yoga is for Everyone, which is why I focus on gentle and beginner-friendly classes. My goal is to make yoga accessible and welcoming, no matter your age, experience, or flexibility.
Outside of yoga, I’m a proud dad to two wonderful daughters. My eldest struggled with anxiety when she was younger, which inspired me to explore how yoga can calm and support young minds. That’s when I truly realized yoga isn’t just about poses—it’s about finding balance and peace within.
If you ask my yogis and clients, they’ll probably describe me as caring, passionate, maybe a little quirky, and (hopefully!) funny. I love connecting with people and making yoga an experience you can look forward to. Whether you’re stepping onto a mat for the first time or you’re a seasoned yogi, I’d love to help you discover the incredible benefits of yoga for yourself.
